Gab Gab Beach

Gab Gab Beach
Sylvin's from the Virgin Islands and I'm from Indiana. We met in St. Croix in 2000 when I was on contract there as a nurse. It all started there on a beautiful sandy beach....then lots of moves and an eventful adoption of our twin girls..Esyanne and Evelisse in 2006. We feel our greatest milestone yet!
We've come to a semi cirlce,.....hence the sandy beaches....This site is all about our adventures in Guam and archives of our first year in Michigan together. Me, Syani, Eve and Sylvin too! We're so very very blessed!
Please feel free to leave a comment at the end of a post. I enjoy the feedback and it lets me know you've been here. Or if you prefer email, send me some at guam.usvigirl@gmail.com

hangin in

I snuck up on the girls just recently one morning and took the above video. I moved some stuff around in the house and rearranged some of their toys. I put a toy box in Eve's room and the play kitchen in Sy's. They've been going back to their rooms and playing back there. They were blabbling and being so loud the other day I just couldn't resist getting them on tape. Especially since every time they see the camera they start whining.
Not much else to report, it's been pretty mundane. Memorial Day weekend came and went. It wasn't adventurous, we went to the pool, mowed the lawn and played outside quite a bit. The girls discovered the neighbor girls, and we've been going over there and playing in the evening.
Sylvin's yet to make it home, but he's close, so it won't be long now. I can't wait to see him. I'm pooped and definitely need a small break. The girls are very aware that Papi's on his way home. They told me tonight while taking a bath they wanted to 'Go eat on Papi's boat'. Sometimes on special occasions we'll have a function on the ship where we all eat in the Galley. I guess they remember going. Amazing what they can recall.
Love and miss you all.

P.S. Sy's the one sitting on the left, and Eve's standing on the right. Try to keep up if you can.
P.S.S. Hopefully the next post will be me telling you how wonderful it is to have Sylvin home.

Waiting on Papi

I took these pictures of the girls playing outside in their 'clubhouse'.
1. Eve's cute little smile. 2. Sy cheesin 3. Sy L, Eve R
They've had an extreme aversion to the camera lately and it's hard to get good pictures from them. They'll whine and run everytime they see me with the camera in hand. I don't get it but I still manage to get a couple cute ones after arguing with them about it.
It's been a quiet week. Not too much but housecleaning and playing. I let the girls play with playdoh for the first time. They did really well with it and seemed to have a lot of fun. It was cute to watch them interact, share and not mix up the colors. They didn't want to, Sy had orange and Eve was more interested in the yellow stuff. I played with them for a little while and then let them go it alone. Beans even got a light snack. It's non toxic and I thought for sure it would upset his stomach but I guess not. It wasn't planned that he was the clean up crew, I forgot he'd eat it. Anyway, I've been having a blast with my new cricut machine. It's a die cut machine for scrapbooking. I also got a book binding and laminating machine but I've been so busy with the cricut I haven't even had a chance to use the other yet. Needless to say I've done enough scrap book pages to fill an album and still got a bunch of pictures to catch up on.
We're just waiting on Sylvin to come home. We're over the hump not too much longer I guess.
So with that brief update I'll leave you with we wish you a great week and love to you all.

Mother's Day

I've really been bad at keeping this updated. I think I have a new incentive though. I recently purchased my own book binding machine. I'm so excited to try and put this blog together and get it printed for the girls. I want to try and archive certain years of our travels and life together for them. I had actually started a "autobiography" at the beginning of the whole adoption process and I quit writing it only because I was overwhelmed with emotion and hadn't a sense of direction. A person is so very complex and three dimensional that it's hard to put words down on paper. Starting from a single point and trying to jot your life down somehow makes the pages seem very flat indeed if not constructed properly. I bought a book several years ago at a book discount warehouse to help me with direction. But there were so many questions I froze up wondering where to begin and how to make it all flow together.
I found it difficult as well to write about my past. Lots of buried emotion and things long left behind that I don't need to remember or feel anymore. Writing about that stuff, looking for just the right words, puts you back in the moment so that you have to accurately paint a picture to convey a message left my heart heavy and my mind drained. Most painfully are the memories of my mom that are beginning to fade. Having children of my own now I wonder how mom was with my brother and I when we were three years old? Do I parent more like my mother or father? Was mom patient? Did dad discipline us or did mom? I know without a doubt mom hollered a lot, probably where I get my volume from I'm sure. Did she feel like I do, wondering how she acquired her skills since she lost her mother at such an early age too? I only got four more short years with mine than she got with hers. Even now the loss is still very real and there's a great sorrow that overcomes me. I miss her.
I'm so grateful for my own two beautiful daughters. I can relate now how my mother must have felt when she had only me and my dad talked her into having another child. Mom told me many times she didn't want any more children because she was afraid she wouldn't love the second child enough. Thank God she conceded to my father's request. She said she loved me enough to give me a sibling. A brother that I was lucky enough to grow up with. My mother grew up and only child until the age of twelve, then she too had a sibling, a sister. So she got to experience both sides of the fence and that's probably the only thing that saved me from being an only child.
So what's my point here? Frankly not sure, just rambling on. I want my children to know one of these days just how much I love them. I hope their memories of me don't fade as fast especially if I can give them something tangible to hold on to. Some small tattered book that they can put on a shelf and get down when they're feeling a little lost or because perhaps they are curious about how I must have felt. Was I happy on May 11, 2009? (Guam time!hahahaha)
I'm happy today stinker pinkers because I have a family that I cherish, friends that I hold dear and a faith in God that I know He's blessed me abundantly. Hopefully I can get my thoughts together and turn this vision of an historical account into something you'll have for a lifetime.
If you have a mother that's still here, healthy and breathing, make her write stuff down. Cherish your time spent together and love one another whatever the difficulties between you may be. Life goes by way too fast.
