Gab Gab Beach

Gab Gab Beach
Sylvin's from the Virgin Islands and I'm from Indiana. We met in St. Croix in 2000 when I was on contract there as a nurse. It all started there on a beautiful sandy beach....then lots of moves and an eventful adoption of our twin girls..Esyanne and Evelisse in 2006. We feel our greatest milestone yet!
We've come to a semi cirlce,.....hence the sandy beaches....This site is all about our adventures in Guam and archives of our first year in Michigan together. Me, Syani, Eve and Sylvin too! We're so very very blessed!
Please feel free to leave a comment at the end of a post. I enjoy the feedback and it lets me know you've been here. Or if you prefer email, send me some at guam.usvigirl@gmail.com

I've gotten downright boring!

Alright, I'm so disappointed in myself but not suprised. I've made a living out of saying things my butt can follow through with. Case in point my latest entry here is pretty spaced out from the last.
Photobucket requires a membership now that I've reached over their quota they really stated. So I guess I'm going to have to break down and subscribe. UGH! But so many times I'm feeling my creative process roll along only to be stymied by not being able to upload. I used it to host a lot of the video here and the montages.
Recently too, one of my best friends Alex, in case you didn't know, has started her own hilarious blog (I've added the link to my blogroll on the right) and I've been inspired to continue on with this that I've undertaken. I'm not nearly as comical, but for prosperity's sake it's something I can hopefully give to the girls one of these days.
We've weather two tropical depressions. One disapaiting as soon as it passed over Guam, and the next one in only a matter of days becoming super typhoon Mealor and pounding the island of Saipan which is just north of Guam. There were all kinds of hype on the radio and tv news broadcasts. The Navy base had lighted signs out on the side of the road warning of us of the impending doom and keeping us updated as to which "Condition of Readiness" we were in. I dropped the girls off at the child developement center one morning to go diving only to be told I must have a number where they can contact me in case they close due to the advancing storm. Uh,.... I'll give it to you, but I doubt it'll ring underwater! Then they were also concerned about my personal safety, I could be swept away in any given number of rip tides due to all the turbulant water.
Mehan and I got to the beach and the weather and water were fine. It turned out to be a beautiful dive. Got to follow a sea turtle for about a 100 yards. Even got to touch it, very cool indeed. I'm getting around to making my point...
Those two storms that rolled through that I tied everything outside down or put away. I stocked up on canned food and milk, filled the car up and withdrew my ATM maximum amount wasn't any worse than a bad storm on Guam in the middle of the rainy season. I had a whole week to get ready for nothing.
So fast forward to yesterday. We've all come down with a cold, but somehow Eve always somehow ends up with the short end of the preverbal stick. I took her in for a doctors appointment at the Naval hospital. She's fine, other than a newly add inhaler which we doesn't even squirm when you have to hold the mask thing over her face. She's an expert in this department. Lots of breathing treatments later and I'm raising a professional non claustrophobic. Then we even stopped by the grocery store on base to pick up a few odds and ends to get us through until the monthly 'big shop'. Came home made a big pot of "Janade-style" chili is what I call it. (A friend of mine here gave me her recipe. Good stuff) and then after the girls were in bed I happened to switch over to the weather channel. Being the "Semper Paratus" wife that I am, I watch to potential swirls in rainy season on the sallelite to kinda guess and see if my predictions come true. I had noticed one area a day or so ago and wondered if it was going to become a whopper or not. Well low and behold there's a red ticker at the bottom of the screen warning of it's upgraded status and where it's located .....longitude X and latitude Y equals....why the hell am I just now hearing about this?! I haven't been dead or off island all week. I got a whole 12 hours notice and it's 10pm?! Good thing I went to the grocery store. Car's only got a half tank of gas from when I filled it up a few weeks ago. Anyway, I'm just thinking that's whacked!
I've seen more big gusty nasty wind and torrential rain with this tropical storm passing through than I had with the other two we had a week to prepare for. Good thing I haven't untied all the girls outdoor toys yet. I've been taking them for walks and to the park or beach instead. I figure when I untie them it'll be like Christmas all over again cause they'll have missed them by then.
