Gab Gab Beach

Gab Gab Beach
Sylvin's from the Virgin Islands and I'm from Indiana. We met in St. Croix in 2000 when I was on contract there as a nurse. It all started there on a beautiful sandy beach....then lots of moves and an eventful adoption of our twin girls..Esyanne and Evelisse in 2006. We feel our greatest milestone yet!
We've come to a semi cirlce,.....hence the sandy beaches....This site is all about our adventures in Guam and archives of our first year in Michigan together. Me, Syani, Eve and Sylvin too! We're so very very blessed!
Please feel free to leave a comment at the end of a post. I enjoy the feedback and it lets me know you've been here. Or if you prefer email, send me some at guam.usvigirl@gmail.com

On the Isle of Rainbows

A quick update and had to share. We were all playing outside today when Eve came up missing. So I got up to look for her. I found her out in the grass laying down and looking up to the sky saying "Pretty Rainbow" and pointing.

We get rainbows quite often around here, but this is the first time one of the girls has pointed it out to me. My little girls are growing up!

Back from Japan!

Sylvin got home Tuesday morning! He's here for a while, at present, I'm happy to report he'll be here for Christmas. Yeah! The above was a sign I had made for him. It's a 2x8 ft. banner that he could see from topside of the ship. The girls were so happy to see him. They went to him immediately and started doing this thing with his mustache that they've done before Eve turned a year old. She pinches at his mustache and then acts like she's eating it. Sy caught on soon after and now they do it to him all the time, but especially when they haven't seen him in a while. Who knows where she got it from, but it's hilarious to watch them in action. They both too wouldn't quit giving him kisses and were hanging on him like the superhero he is to them. So to say they weren't happy or excited would be a grave misquote. I honestly think they understood too that we were going to pick up Papi and bring him home from the ship that morning.

Poor Sylvin said he was exhausted yesterday from trying to decipher their jargon all day. He was trying to have a conversation with Eve, well Eve can't hold a real conversation yet, but she'll talk your ears off trying. Sylvin just couldn't figure out all her 'sentences' I guess she is putting sentences together, I've learned to tune them out or they'd drive me nuts. Sylvin said yesterday when I put them into the tub to get ready for bed. He said, "Geeze they haven't quit talking since they got up from their naps!?" I was like, "Oh?...yeah,I guess I know they're talking but it just doesn't bother me really." He's just not used to them being so chatty I guess. Poor Sylvin, I ended up giving them a bath to he could take a break from them. Gee, I wonder how Dani does it all the time? Nah, they're really good most days having moments on occasion.
Well, good to have him home. I thought I was going to take videos of the ship, but half way down to the pier I found that my batteries were dead, so sorry. No videos of homecoming. I'll make sure they're charged for Halloween. They're going as cowgirls and Papi will be home to go door to door with us. I hope Eve is okay. She's the one that'll freak out. She was watching the Adams Family the other day and flipped when she saw the hand walking all by itself.
I could go on and on, but I won't. Love to you all. Have a great weekend.

We're all still here and hangin in!

(Sy, Kelsey and Eve)
Sylvin called last night and said they're again delayed. Oh why did I expect any good news is beyond me. Poor honey, the whole crew was silent last night so he reported. I can't say as I blame any one of them. It's getting to the point where it's becoming a real pain in the ass. I MISS HIM! I hate the fact that he's lost the whole summer watching his girls grow up. They're talking their heads off and I try to soften the blow every time I talk to him on how their progress is. I'm still in agreement it could be alot worse, but sometimes it just feels better to bitch a little bit. I've been hanging out with my friends again, but on a slower pace. It's been a nice distraction. We've been busy crafting things and I have to admit being creative helps relieve some stress. The girls in their defense, have had more good days then bad and they're so smiley lately. Sy really even has a sense of humor that she shows quite often. She's such a serious kid I thought there was no hope for her. But I stand corrected. Well, my little turkeys are up from their nap. The only peace I get throughout the day and I'm here to tell ya it doesn't seem long enough! Hope you all are well and have a good rest of the week. Love and miss you all

Raising Colors

This is the flag the flies atop of the SEQUOIA........

I had gotten up early this morning to meet Mehan and Janade for a morning walk. I had actually rolled out of bed at the crack of dawn!....ME!? Who knew? Anyway, I was feeling quite proud of myself and delighting in the silence of the morning without the girls stirring yet. I went to open my window blinds when I spotted children and moms walking to school. Much to my dismay they were like magnets being drawn in one direction and all moving at a pretty brisk pace. I stood watching them a few minutes when I noticed everyone stopped abruptly. Everyone stood still, not flinching with their hands over their hearts. Could it be that I'm up early enough to partake in the raising of colors!? I opened my window to see if I could hear an announcement. There are loud speakers strategically placed around housing so you can hear "Mr. Bigmouth" is what we call him. Low and behold the Star Spangled Banner was playing and I got goosebumps. I love being here and having the privelidge to witness hearing that song and knowing across the whole island wherever there was a flag to be raised, they were raising it on all the military bases. Not all simutanousely of course, but in succession I'm sure. I'm so fortunate and grateful for my freedom, that God made me an American and I found the love of my life not only serving God, but the nation as well. My children will hopefully grow up and feel the same sense of pride when they see a flag or hear our nations' anthems. It was a bright and beautiful warm morning, I had a good walk with my girls and friends. I'm thankful today that God has blessed my life with contentment and bestowed his grace upon me and my family. I hope the same for you this week. I hope you find something that moves you so deeply you'll stop to reflect all that's good in your life. Bedtime kisses from two precious souls are always good, but I guess I needed something a little out of our normal routine to truely apprciate them again. Life is beautifully short and God is GOOD!
